Planning is the process of discovering what should be in a given community. The planning process takes all that could be in any given place, as determined by the Market process, and streamlines that into a preferred future or a plan of what should be. The Market process usually reveals many possibilities, and the Planning process refines those into what is actually preferable through developing land use, urban design, open space, and transportation recommendations for neighborhoods, corridors, and larger areas.
The key to any plan is being able to successfully navigate the process and to find consensus amongst the public, the governing body, and the property owner. At Market + Main, we are a firm that utilizes public involvement as a cornerstone to build our planning process around. Strategic outreach cannot be an afterthought or add-on; it must be an integral and necessary part of any project to ensure success.
